DropMetadata

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2, 2026. In short: your photos and videos never leave your device, because DropMetadata has no server to send them to.

The short version

  • Your files are never uploaded. All processing happens inside your browser.
  • We do not have accounts, so we never ask for your name, email or password.
  • Ads on this site are served by Google and may set cookies. They never receive your files.
  • We cannot see your photos, your metadata, or the files you clean.

1. Your files are never uploaded

DropMetadata is a client-side tool. When you select a photo or video, the browser reads it from your device into its own memory and processes it there using JavaScript. The file is not transmitted to us, to a hosting provider, or to any third party.

Because of this, we have no ability to access, view, store, or recover the files you process. When you close or reload the tab, the file is discarded from memory.

2. Metadata we extract

To show you what is hidden inside a file, the tool reads embedded metadata such as GPS coordinates, camera make and model, timestamps and authorship fields. This information is displayed only in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere.

3. No accounts, no personal data

The tool works without signing in. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers or payment details, because there is no account system to attach them to.

If you email us, we will of course receive whatever information you choose to put in that email, and we use it solely to reply to you.

4. Cookies and advertising

This site is free to use and is funded by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or read device identifiers in order to serve, cap and measure those ads, and may use them to personalise what you are shown.

That advertising is confined to the pages themselves and has no access to what the tool does. Your photos and videos are never uploaded, so no advertiser — and no part of Google — ever receives them, or the metadata found inside them.

You can review and change ad personalisation in Google’s own ad settings. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. You are also free to use a content blocker: the cleaning tool works exactly the same with ads blocked.

5. Hosting and server logs

The site is served as static files by a hosting provider. As with essentially all websites, that provider automatically records basic technical request data — such as IP address, browser type and requested URL — for security, abuse prevention and reliability.

These logs relate to page requests only. They never contain your photos, your videos, or the metadata found inside them, because those never reach a server.

6. Children

The tool is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect personal information at all.

7. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data that a company holds about you. Since we do not collect or store personal data through this tool, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or erase. If you have contacted us by email and would like that correspondence deleted, write to us and we will remove it.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — for example if analytics are introduced — the date at the top of this page will be updated and the change described here.
